Akhmat held to a 2-2 draw in Orenburg

Orenburg and Akhmat shared the points in their Round 6 RPL clash, finishing 2–2.

Despite conceding in the very first minute, going down to ten men as early as the 5th, and allowing their opponents to double the lead just before half-time, the Grozny side came out strongly after the break and struck twice within the opening ten minutes. Ismael and Maksim Sidorov found the net to level the score.
However, Akhmat’s troubles deepened midway through the half when forward Lechi Sadulaev was shown a straight red card, reducing them to nine men.

At the post-match press conference, Akhmat head coach Stanislav Cherchesov said:

— I didn’t like how we started the game. Apparently, I wasn’t able to get through to the guys before the match. At half-time we managed to make certain changes in tactics and psychology. 2–2 – credit to the team for coming back from two goals down with ten men, and then holding on with nine.

— What do you have to say about the refereeing in this game?
— That’s not a question for me. The referees have their own chief. I’m responsible for everything my team does on the pitch.

— What did you say at half-time?
— That will stay in the dressing room. But I’ll say this: no bottles were flying. At 0–2 you don’t need to shout, you need to change certain things. Credit to the players for turning the situation around. We’ll discuss everything else once we’re back home.

— How would you describe the fact that the team managed to get out of this situation?
— We’re working. We’re doing certain things, and there’s psychological work involved. The important thing is the guys kept believing in themselves until the end, listened, and did it.
